Simentra complete International Business Incubation study in USA and Europe
A comprehensive international study was commissioned by Technium, a Welsh Government technology incubation initiative in the UK, to identify areas of best practice for technology business acceleration in a comparative study between the west coast of USA and the UK market.
San Jose, Bracknell, Belfast, 30th June 2003
Simentra Ltd, a company providing a low-risk, cost effective and fast route to the market for early stage and venture capital backed high-growth technology firms, today announced the completion of their international study on technology business incubation for the Technium programme, a range of technology incubators being established by the Welsh Government in the UK to accelerate early stage companies and foster business partnerships between the government, academia and commercial institutions.
The campaign was managed by Gareth White, a Director with Simentra who operates the Incubation Business Unit at the company. White co-ordinated panel discussions during the course of the 3 month assignment in California with a series of industry influencers, venture capitalists, incubation operators and early stage technology companies.
The USA based program was also designed to develop an international Associate Programme for the Technium facilities in the UK. Working with the International Business Incubator in San Jose, California the study included examples of policies, infrastructure and business support mechanisms being utilised by technology incubators in developing nations in addition to the review of the Californian based facilities.
"Through the efforts of the Simentra team in the Incubation Business Unit, we have studied and visited a multitude of facilities in the west coast USA. It was imperative to try and understand what framework has been adopted by some of these facilities to attract international investment. It was our aim to use the results of the Needs Analysis survey to help establish an International Associate programme that attracted the interests of high growth technology companies seeking to use the Technium locations for some form of overseas operations." commented White.
The completed study acts as a framework for Technium development. With facilities already established for ICT, Biotech, Media and Optoelectronics, the study made recommendations for local and regional collaboration for new facilities in the Automotive and Digital sectors. Simentra will continue for develop international frameworks for future incubation projects as part of the Business Units and are already exploring markets in South Africa and Australia.
